Part 61 and Part 141: a planning conversation

A plain-language overview of flexible Part 61 training and the questions to ask.

Different structures, different fit

Part 61 and Part 141 are regulatory training structures with different requirements and school models. ITP describes its training as Part 61. Ask how the training structure fits your schedule and intended qualifications.

Focus on your actual goal

Ask about schedule flexibility, curriculum, instructor support, training frequency, records, funding constraints, and the credentials you want. The better fit is personal, not a universal ranking.

Avoid funding assumptions

Part 61 flight training should not be described as conventional college financial aid. Financing, scholarships, benefits, and workforce support may have separate eligibility rules.

Take this into your conversation.

Write down your goal, what you already know and what you need the school to confirm. Leave with a clear next step, not an assumption.
