What flight training costs: build a useful budget

A practical way to distinguish minimum requirements from a personal training budget.

Separate the categories

A realistic plan can include aircraft time, flight and ground instruction, simulator time where used, knowledge and practical tests, examiner fees, medical, supplies, insurance, and additional training.

Minimums are not predictions

FAA experience minimums are a regulatory starting point. Your eventual hours and cost depend on preparation, lesson frequency, weather, instructor and aircraft availability, proficiency, and current rates.

Use a dated estimate

Ask ITP for the approved rate sheet, package inclusions and exclusions, payment policies, and a written estimate with assumptions. Revisit it if rates, frequency, or your goal changes.

Take this into your conversation.

Write down your goal, what you already know and what you need the school to confirm. Leave with a clear next step, not an assumption.
